Local Sounds Take Over Statehouse for America 250-Ohio Celebration

Downtown Columbus is anchoring the statewide launch of the America 250-Ohio Signature Homecoming & Picnic tomorrow, Saturday, July 4, 2026, bringing a massive, free cultural celebration directly to the Franklin County core. Kicking off at 11:00 AM with cannon fire on the Ohio Statehouse lawn, the once-in-a-generation event coordinates live independent music, historical exhibitions, and a metropolitan fireworks finale to engage local builders and creative communities. The day-long city footprint utilizes key downtown spaces to bypass standard commercial festival templates, establishing localized hubs across the Statehouse grounds, the Ohio Theatre, and Columbus Commons.

Underground Grooves & Living History


  • The Main Stage Lineup: Free street-level performances on the Statehouse grounds highlight Columbus-based independent musicians, including vintage swing/hot jazz outfit The Whirlybirds at 3:30 PM and heavy soul/funk staples HooDoo Soul Band at 5:30 PM.


  • On-Site Cultural Programming: The lawn will host local artisan market vendors, food trucks, historical reenactors, and a public reading of the Declaration of Independence alongside a live vintage baseball exhibition match by the Ohio Village Muffins at 11:00 AM.


  • Silver Screen Screenings: CAPA’s historic Ohio Theatre opens its doors for free cinematic features highlighting Ohio ties, screening Cars at 11:00 AM and Forrest Gump at 4:30 PM, split by a live 4:00 PM performance on the Mighty Morton Organ.


The Nighttime Shift


The visual layout shifts to Columbus Commons at 8:00 PM for the free "Columbus Symphony Celebrates America" concert, culminating in a downtown skyline fireworks finale immediately following the performance. While online ticket allocations are fully claimed, neighborhood residents can access a limited number of remaining admission passes at the gate on a first-come, first-served basis.
